Its brick buildings and streets radiate a sepia tone, as if the whole city is tinted with sticky, sweet-smelling tobacco. Often referred to as “Camel City” after the world-famous cigarette brand created by R.J. Winston-Salem was ranked #59 as one of the “Best Places to Live” and ranked #35 in “Best Places to Retire” by US News. It was also named as one of “North Carolina’s Safest Cities” by WalletHub.  Whether you are mountain bound or prefer to head towards the beach, Winston is conveniently located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.

Make sure you make it to Trade Street for shopping & dining and special events that will have you dancing in the streets. Fun Fact: Winston-Salem is the birthplace of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Texas Pete hot sauce and Miss Jenny’s Pickles. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and Hanes, and the underwear company, have roots here, too. (maybe too much information on that last one? LOL)
